Middlesex Mountaineers
This is a group of church members and friends who go for walks pioneered by Rev. Tony Rablen about three times a year. As from November 2011, Martin Wise takes up the leadership. The usual pattern is to take the tube and or train from Rayners Lane at around 10am, get to the nearest station to the planned route, walk about four miles, break for a pub lunch around 1pm, then walk about two miles to another station and get back by about 5pm.
Middlesex Mountaineers: New date
The next walk will be on Saturday 7th Jan 2012. We are not expecting to find any mountains but a pleasant trip and friendly company will be found. Please make a note in your diary and on your calendars. Full details and a sign-up list is at the back of the Church. Martin Wise.
This is an example walk
Richmond Park, 10th October 2009
Richmond to Putney though the Richmond Park was the route taken on 10th October 2009. The team comprised 15 adults and two children who walked in total some 17,800 steps (about six miles). Getting off at Richmond tube station, the walk climbed up to the highest point of Richmond Park. The aptly named 'Halfway House" located in East Sheen was the pub that Tony chose for lunch. The walk after lunch was easier, downhill to meet the Thames near Putney and then on to Putney Bridge station for returning home.
Here are some pictures taken on that beautiful sunny and warm early Autumn day.

St Paul's Church, London, could be seen through the gap. A handy fixed telescope was available to look through for those who wanted a better view.
Windsor Castle could be seen to the West, at the right hand corner of this picture. The Wembley Stadium was spotted looking North from a different spot.
A large herd of deer, some green parakeets, woodpeckers, ducks and various other birds, panting runners including a man running pushing a baby in pram, cyclists, roller bladers and a clown on a decorated tricycle made up the wild life.
